Until the first decades of the 20th century, women’s healthcare in Brazil focused mainly on issues such as childbirth and pregnancy. It was only in 2004, with the National Policy for Comprehensive Women’s Healthcare (PNAISM), that women began receiving comprehensive attention to their healthcare needs, rather than care focused solely on pregnancy.

Over the years, new and extremely important aspects have become part of the healthcare system, because every woman has specific health and well-being needs at each stage of her life. During Women’s Month, we want to highlight the special care that every woman should take to improve her quality of life.

  1. Maintain a healthy diet: Paying attention to your daily meals makes a difference. It is not about following restrictive diets, but rather ensuring adequate nutrition.
  2. Exercise regularly: You do not need to spend your life at the gym, but it is recommended to follow the WHO guideline of 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day, 5 days a week.
  3. Have regular check-ups: Undergoing preventive women’s health exams, such as mammograms and cervical screening, is essential for detecting diseases early and receiving the appropriate guidance.
  4. Monitor your health: If you notice any symptoms or discomfort, consult your healthcare provider to receive an appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
  5. Pay attention to your mental health: If you feel that you need help, do not keep it to yourself. Seek professional support to get through the situation with the necessary assistance.
  6. Take care of intimate hygiene: Paying attention to your intimate area is essential to help prevent common infections, such as candidiasis. It is also important to avoid certain habits, such as wearing very tight clothing, staying in wet underwear or a wet swimsuit for long periods, and sharing certain personal items.
  7. Protect yourself against diseases: For women who are sexually active, it is essential to choose appropriate methods for disease prevention and contraception. It is also important to pay attention to sexual relationships and get regular tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

These habits should become part of your routine. Your daily life will feel lighter, and you will feel much better!
