The Junho Vermelho (Red June) Campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage people about the importance of being a blood donor.
Anyone may need a blood transfusion at some point, whether due to trauma caused by accidents, surgeries, or the treatment of diseases, for example.
It is essential to emphasize that a single donation can save up to four lives. The amount of blood collected does not affect the donor’s health, as the body immediately begins to recover after the donation. It is little for those who donate and a lot for those who need it!
Basic criteria for blood donation:
- Be between 16 and 69 years old (those under 18 must present formal consent from their legal guardian);
- People between 60 and 69 years old may only donate blood if they have donated before turning 60;
- Present a photo ID issued by an official authority (Identity Card, National Driver’s License, Work Card, Passport, National Registry of Foreigners, Reservist Certificate, or Professional ID issued by a professional association). Digital documents with a photo are also accepted;
- Weigh at least 50 kg;
- Have slept for at least 6 hours within the previous 24 hours;
- Have eaten. Avoid fatty foods during the 3 hours before blood donation. If donating after lunch, wait 2 hours.
