At the beginning of 2024, we experienced a significant surge in dengue cases. The dengue virus is transmitted through the bite of the female Aedes aegypti mosquito and has four different serotypes.
According to the Ministry of Health, this increase is due to factors such as the combination of excessive heat and heavy rainfall, as well as the recent resurgence of dengue virus serotypes 3 and 4 in Brazil.
Understand the symptoms and learn how to protect yourself from dengue:
Prevention:
● Use window screens and insect repellent in areas where dengue transmission is known to occur;
● Remove containers around your home that could become mosquito breeding grounds;
● Keep water tanks and reservoirs properly sealed;
● Clean and unclog gutters, roofs, and drains;
● Participate in monitoring and supporting dengue prevention and control efforts.
Symptoms:
Dengue infection does not always cause symptoms. A person may have asymptomatic dengue or experience a mild case. However, it is important to be alert if you develop a high fever (39°C to 40°C) accompanied by at least two other symptoms:
● Severe headache
● Pain behind the eyes
● Muscle and joint pain
● Nausea and vomiting
● Red spots or rash on the body
If you experience any possible symptoms of dengue, it is very important to consult your healthcare provider!
